04. Do you use your own crew, or do you subcontract the work?
Every installer on the City Deck team is trained in-house — the work is not subcontracted labor.

03. I don't have a design yet — can you still help me?
Yes. If you're starting from scratch with no design, our Custom Deck Building service guides you through the entire process, from initial concept to final construction. If you already have a blueprint or architect's plan, our Deck Installation service builds it directly, without a design phase.
04. What areas does City Deck serve?

Six steps: site preparation (clearing the area, marking utility lines, checking drainage), footings and foundation sized to Virginia code, precise framing with ground-contact-rated pressure-treated lumber, decking installation with proper spacing and fasteners, code-compliant railings and stairs, and a final walkthrough to confirm everything meets standard.
02. How long does a deck installation take?
Most installations are completed in 1 to 2 weeks, with a clear timeline communicated upfront.
03. How long does a fully custom deck build take?
A custom build includes a design phase before construction begins, so it runs longer than a straight installation. Exact timelines depend on design complexity and permitting — we'll give you a specific schedule during your consultation.
04. Do you handle permits?
Yes, City Deck handles permitting as part of the project. Structural deck work typically requires a permit in Fairfax, Loudoun, and most Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC jurisdictions.
05. What happens at the final walkthrough?
Once your project is complete, we walk it with you to confirm every detail meets City Deck's standards and yours — the job isn't considered done until that walkthrough happens.

For a 300 sq ft deck, installation of an existing design typically runs $10,500–$18,000, while a fully custom design-and-build runs $12,390–$23,400. Final pricing depends on material, square footage, and site conditions — get an exact number from a free in-home consultation.
02. How much does deck repair cost?
Most deck repairs run about $600–$4,000, depending on whether the issue is cosmetic (a few boards, a loose railing) or structural (joists, beams, ledger).
03. Do published estimates include permits and site prep?
No — published cost ranges reflect typical regional pricing by material and square footage only. They don't include permits, site conditions, demolition of an existing structure, or custom features like pergolas, lighting, or built-in seating. Your in-home consultation accounts for all of that before you get a final quote.
04. Does a new deck add resale value?

Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech, and Azek), pressure-treated wood, and premium hardwood.
02. What's the difference between composite and wood decking?
Composite is the most popular choice for Virginia homeowners — it resists rot, mold, and insects, needs no staining, and typically carries a 25–30 year manufacturer warranty. Wood costs less upfront but needs more ongoing maintenance, including periodic staining and sealing.
03. Is City Deck a certified installer for these brands?
Yes, City Deck is a Trex Certified Installer.
Warranty
01. Do you offer a workmanship warranty?
Yes. City Deck guarantees all installation work against defects in craftsmanship for 5 years from the date of project completion. This ensures our work meets professional standards and holds up under normal use and conditions throughout the coverage period.
02. Is the composite decking material itself under warranty?
Yes. Trex composite decking and railing products carry a manufacturer's limited residential warranty against manufacturing defects — including cracking, splitting, peeling, rot, and structural damage from termites or fungal decay. Coverage length depends on the product line: Trex Signature and Transcend carry a 50-year manufacturer warranty, Trex Select carries 35 years, and Trex Enhance carries 25 years. This warranty is transferable one time within the first 5 years of original purchase, extending coverage to a new property owner for the remaining term.
03. Is pressure-treated wood decking also covered?
Yes. Lumber pressure-treated with MicroPro® or LifeWood® micronized copper azole preservatives carries lifetime protection against termite damage and fungal decay. If the treated wood structurally fails due to termite infestation or decay that compromises its load-bearing ability, the manufacturer will replace the material or issue a refund up to the original purchase price, at its discretion. Surface-level mold, mildew, and natural weathering — graying, checking, color change — are cosmetic and not covered as structural failure.
04. How long is the labor covered on my decking surface specifically?
Labor warranty on the decking surface is tiered by product line: 25 years for Trex Transcend or Signature installations, 15 years for Trex Select, and 10 years for Trex Enhance.
05. What about the frame underneath the deck — is that covered too?
Yes, separately from the surface. Framing and structural warranty runs 20 years for Trex Transcend or Signature projects, and 10 years for Trex Select or Enhance projects.
06. What's the difference between a manufacturer's warranty and a workmanship warranty?
The manufacturer's warranty covers the material itself — if the decking boards fail because of how they were made. The workmanship warranty covers the installation — City Deck's 5-year guarantee that the work itself was done correctly. If a problem develops because of how something was built rather than a material defect, that's what our workmanship warranty covers.
07. What if something goes wrong during my warranty period?

Yes. Our crew is trained to work around existing landscaping, protecting your grass, garden beds, and plants throughout the build.

Yes — City Deck brings its own dumpster to every job, and all debris, offcuts, and waste are removed from your property before we call the project complete.
03. Do I need to be home during construction?
No, you don't need to be on-site for most of the build. We recommend being available for the initial layout walkthrough and the final walkthrough so you can confirm everything matches the approved design.
